Spittin's post was a top ten list: "Top Ten Ways to Know Your Novel (or proposal or short story or article…I’m not prejudiced) Has Been Rejected." I'm going to take the top ten theme and make my own top ten list, on the flip side of rejection! So, without further ado:
Top Ten Things To Do While You Wait For Your Book To Come Out:
#1. Google the title of your book
#2. Google your name
#3. Google your name with (debatably) relevant keywords
#4. Repeat all of the above on Blogsearch
#5. Set up Google Alerts for the title of your book and your name
#6. Check out your book's page on the publisher's website
#7. Check out your book's page on Amazon
#9. Stop, close the computer, remember that there is More To Life, and go for a nice long walk. Preferably pushing a double stroller two and a half miles round trip to the library for storytime.
#10. Come back and do a blog chain post!
You will note that nowhere on the list is the one and only thing that should be on the list (with the possible exceptions of #9 and #10) -- write the next book. Oh, well.
Next up on the blog chain is Mad Scientist Matt's Lair, where you can read all about whether or not you can really run your car on water, which I think is so cool because my husband and I were just talking about that the other day. What are the chances?
Check out all the other participants!
Auria Cortes
Life in Scribbletown
Polyamory From the Inside Out
For the First Time
Family On Bikes
Writes in the City
Elf Killing and Other Hobbies
Rotating Bear
Fantastical Imagination
Asian Business
Spittin' (Out Words) Like a Llama
As Yet Untitled
Mad Scientist Matt's Lair
Peregrinas
Delirious

Man, I hope one day I can complete this top ten list...but for now I've got to wait and sell the darn thing ;-)
Good heavens, your list just makes so much sense. Don't tell me we're injecting sense into the chain? :)
Well you can get started on the next one tomorrow. Congrats!
Now I know how to best spend my time when the agent finally says, "We sold it!" I will clip this and stow it in my purse for future reference.
Let's contemplate, for a moment, the ironically inverse-proportional relationship of these types of writerly activities to the technological speeding-up of the publicaion process.
After reading your entry, I could again understand the necessity of Google for all of us. I do some of these things all the time.
You have so encapsulated my life at the moment--seriously.
Google is invaluable for getting your name and your book out there. I'd also recommend using the free press release services floating around on the internet. Not only do those increase your Google visibility, but occasionally other, more specifc book-related sites will pick them up.
Can never have too much publicity. 15 more days...
Great post!
I'm sure I'll be doing all of these should I ever actually sell a book. Great post.
Gosh - I can't wait to do all those things!!! Maybe someday I can proudly add myself to the list...
Quite an entertaining list - I imagine I'll be doing a lot of those myself after my deadline.
I Google my name now. I guess I'm preemptive but the book will catch up eventually!
Love your list!
